The Andromeda Strain (Crichton) was recently remade as a TV movie. I didn't love the adaptation but it reminded me of the novel. You might enjoy that. Another idea is Company by Max Barry but it helps if you've spent a lot of time in corporate world. Then the satire feels a lot sharper.

Maybe they offered used and unused call girls, although I can't see how they could keep up a supply of unused ones. Maybe he preferred the more experienced used models(?) rather than risk something odd happening with an unused one. We should call CNN and ask. ;)

" I wonder if my imagination has become old and brittle…."

I doubt it very much.

I just think both Da Vinci and the Crichton you refer to also are simply extraordinarily badly written and because of this, and other reasons some of which you refer to, are cannot enrapture one.

I actually cannot get beyond the first couple of chapters of Brown's book (which I attempted because people recommended to me) because the writing literally repels me.

I ploughed through Crichton because I found it interesting to consider the view he was presenting, but again the writing is a thesis presented in the rags of a story. Mebbe he should start writing honest op-ed pieces?

I'd be giving your imagination a chance at something really good before declaring it moribund.

Mind you, I also seldom recapture that wonderful raptness and joy that books used to give me....but I have a few times lately....but not in the old way. Good to hear you have refound it to some extent.

I hear ya, man. I immediately wanted to institute a "no gay dog sweaters" rule when we got Ajax. Unfortunately, the weekend we got her we were having highs in the low teens, and in the mornings it was closer to zero. A dog that small simply can't endure those temps, so low and behold, the dog has a sweater. I only put it on her if its below 20 degrees, though. Otherwise, she can handle it long enough to pee.

Comment on When retards attack! Paulo Kull is the big badass of the internet and the world trembles in fear… by Robert Gentel

I logged into hi5 today and saw some more messages from Paulo from
December. He tossed in some dumb "need to get laid" insults, some penis insults and made very thinly veiled threats to my family saying that he knew where they lived. In short, he didn't get any smarter.

One of his messages was apparently supposed to be scary, because he was gloating about how scared he made me. I'd intended to laugh at him a bit more because people who try to be bullies scare kids but we all grow out of it and they just seem pathetic, but people who try to physically intimidate you on the internet are just too hilarious a level of pathetic to do anything other than laugh at. So I was going to taunt him some more and ask him to flesh out his silly threats a bit more just so he can see for himself how empty they are but then I thought better of it and decided to wish him a happy new year and let the guy get the last word in and be done with this waste of time.

So I typed it out:

"Happy New year Paulo, and in the spirit of the season I'll leave it at that. I hope this new year is happier than your last."

And I sent it. But hi5.com told me he was blocking my messages and I noticed he'd sent me another one telling me how "Psichos like attention, too bad. I don't have time to give to retard loners such as yourself, so I have to say goodbye."

Ha, he's not as dumb as he looks. Sure, he messages me out of the blue then claims I'm the one who wants attention and sure he tells me yet again how he's going to make me regret ever replying to him but at least he knows enough to cut his losses He either realized it's a waste of time, that he sounded retarded, that he wasn't scaring anyone or a combination of it all.

Either way, works for me. <shrugs> And since I didn't get my nice message in, here it is:

Paulo, have a happy new year. I mean it sincerely. I had fun goading you, but I don't hold any hard feelings (whether or not you do) and hope you have a good New Year.
